**************Early October 2008 Update
Dear Green Streets friends,
EVENTS… a few we recommend!
Next weekend: "RECLAIM THE STREETS FOR HORNS, BIKES AND FEET" PARADE! (IT’S REALLY FUN...
Through
a wonderful contact at the State Transportation Building, CMS was able
to obtain a 7’ x 7’ enlargement of the MBTA system map, which shows all of the greater Boston region’s bus and train lines, as well as natural features and roads. The school then
laminated the beautiful map, and framed and installed it in the front hall of the school.
Students who come from all over...
Green Streets Director Janie Katz-Christy and her family were "shadowed" during the summer by Boston Globe reporter Emma Brown and photographer/videographer Yoon Byun to see and experience how they get around without a car. The reporter and photographer borrowed the family’s tandem bicycle (that was quite hilarious and exciting, and we wished we’d had pictures of them!) to...
Meghan
Perrier doesn’t own a car and doesn’t want to, either. When she moved
to Somerville last December, she was surprised by how easy it was to
live without one.
“I had so many different options for travel,” she says. "People think it’s really difficult but I think it’s easier.” Since
moving to Somerville, Meghan has been working as a teacher and camp
counselor. It was a big decision to...

Bicycles are charming
machines. They are pleasantly simple in construction but have the

this blog, because so many people feel that they simply must have a car
once they have children (if not before!), and...
Green Streets has made an impact on my family's everyday life.
My
children, husband and I have been keen to find ways to make our
everyday life more compatible with our values– how can we lower our
environmental impact every day, in ways that make a difference?
Green Streets' Walk?/Ride days is one real option
for us and our friends. I began riding my bike to work when I saw...
Green Streets was present at the first installment of Bike Friday’s put on by the City of Boston. This Bike Friday was held in conjunction with July’s Walk/Ride Day and there was lots of green to be seen! Police escorted Bike Convoys started from multiple points throughout the Boston area, and came to a finish at Boston City Hall Plaza.
Green Streets Director Janie Katz-Christy was interviewed for this month’s "She’s So Skirt!" segment of Skirt! Magazine. Skirt! caught up with Janie in Davis Square one afternoon. Click here to read the article in it’s entirety!
