Participating Cities

  • Home to the oldest subway in North America, Boston has deep roots in active, sustainable transportation.  Nicknamed "The Walking City," Boston hosts more pedestrian commuters than do other comparably populated cities.  Boston is also making strides to join the ranks of other world class biking cities thanks in part by efforts from Mayor Menino and his "Car is no longer king" policy.

  • All About Cambridge

In Self magazine's annual rankings of "America's Best Cities for Women," Cambridge emerged as the "Healthiest Overall City," boasting a population that, compared to other cities, walks to work "80 percent more".

  • Energize Everett began in 2009 with support from the Mayor’s Office through a MA Department of Public Health Mass in Motion grant.  It has continued through the years with unrelenting support from Mass in Motion, as well as the Boston Public Health Commission. Our mission is to create a healthy community by promoting an environment where all have access to healthy affordable food and numerous places to enjoy physical activity.

  • The LFFA and the City of Lynn are celebrating Walk/Ride Days! The city of Lynn will be encouraging its own employees, community members, and local businesses to take part by considering ways to make healthier and greener transportation choices in support of this day!

  • Medford is a city of just over 56 thousand on the banks of the Mystic River, five miles northwest of downtown Boston. Tufts University is in Medford, as well as a great deal of green space, including the Middlesex Fells Reservation and the Brooks Estate.

  • Newton is a vibrant, varied city of 80,000 on the edge of Boston.  Founded in 1630, Newton has 14 distinct villages, many of which surround transportation stops on the MBTA Green line and commuter rail, 15 walkable neighborhood elementary schools, 3 colleges with residential dorms, and beautiful open spaces for recreational walking and biking, such as the Charles River Bikeway and the Cochituate and Sudbury Aqueduct trails.

  • Somerville named 10th most walkable city in the nation.
