Everett
Energize Everett began in 2009 with support from the Mayor’s Office through a MA Department of Public Health Mass in Motion grant. It has continued through the years with unrelenting support from Mass in Motion, as well as the Boston Public Health Commission. Our mission is to create a healthy community by promoting an environment where all have access to healthy affordable food and numerous places to enjoy physical activity.
Energize Everett is working with The Joint Committee for Children’s Healthcare in Everett to promote the Walking School Bus in each elementary school in the city and tie it into Walk/Ride Days by making sure that the last Friday of every month is particularly emphasized.
Six local business have come on board to offer incentives for community members who “go green”. We plan on getting another 6 to sign on in the coming months now that other owners are noticing the good press that our retailer partners are receiving. Everything from salon services, dry cleaning, and take out retailers are on board. We want to involve several of our newest business including an indoor rock climbing studio, indoor trampoline park, and local coffee roaster.
The Mayor has also sponsored the City Hall kick-off where employees were welcome to stop in for healthy refreshments upon signing in for Walk/Ride Day. The City of Everett is also part of the Walk/Ride Day Corporate Challenge.
Energize Everett has been working closely with WalkBoston and MAPC to create a walking map of the city. We have also partnered with Bike to the Sea, Inc. to help construct and promote the Northern Strand Community Trail, a 9-mile rail-trail that will connect the communities of Everett, Malden, Revere, Saugus and Lynn. Bike to the Sea, Inc. and Tri-CAP were also extremely helpful in mapping out walking routes and providing feedback.
