Newton, MA
Newton is a vibrant, varied city of 80,000 on the edge of Boston. Founded in 1630, Newton has 14 distinct villages, many of which surround transportation stops on the MBTA Green line and commuter rail, 15 walkable neighborhood elementary schools, 3 colleges with residential dorms, and beautiful open spaces for recreational walking and biking, such as the Charles River Bikeway and the Cochituate and Sudbury Aqueduct trails.
Newton has a history of interest in starting Walk/Ride Days in Newton, since Green Streets' founding in 2006. In the spring of 2012, during the current administration of Mayor Setti Warren, this interest rose to a new level and, thanks to the work of many, the City of Newton was officially entered in the Walk/Ride Day Corporate Challenge, which runs from March through September, 2012. Newton welcomes local businesses to come on board as Retail Partners and Corporate Sponsors. We look forward to working with you to create a healthier, more vibrant, safer, and more sustainably-traveled Newton!
